It's a busy stretch in Watsessing. Here are five community events coming up in and around the neighborhood, from an art show in Bloomfield Center to a street block party, a park tree planting, a farewell 5K, and a Halloween party at the farmers market.

Whether you already live here or are just getting to know the neighborhood, this is your quick calendar for the next two weeks. Every event is free to attend unless noted, and details come straight from the organizers and community groups listed at the bottom.

Bloomfield Center Alliance Art Show: Thursday, October 15

The Bloomfield Center Alliance Art Show opens Thursday, October 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at 11 Broad Street, Bloomfield. It is an exhibit and reception featuring Bloomfield artists Peter Syak (ceramic sculpture), Elzbieta Kagiuba (photography), Erin O'Brien-Kenna (painting), and Janet McCarthy (painting), curated by Kevin Calhoun and presented by Carle McCarthy.

Light food and beverages will be served. The show is co-sponsored by the Bloomfield Center Alliance and Provident Bank, and it is a good reason to spend a fall evening in the Center.

Lenox Terrace Block Party: Saturday, October 17

The Lenox Terrace Block Party runs Saturday, October 17 from 3:00 pm on Lenox Terrace between Morse Avenue and Fulton Street. The street is blocked off so kids can safely ride bikes and play.

Grills are provided, so bring your favorite meat or veggie items to grill and a potluck dish to share. BYOB. Bring lawn chairs and musical instruments. The rain date is Sunday, October 18.

Watsessing Park Tree Planting: Wednesday, October 21

On Wednesday, October 21 in the morning, the Watsessing Park Conservancy is planting close to 15 native trees in three areas of the park, near Cleveland Terrace and in the middle section by the dog park. The county digs the holes and places each tree; volunteers fill and compost the holes.

Tools that help: shovels, a pick to score rootballs, gloves, and wire cutters. The county crew time is to be confirmed, so check the group's posts closer to the date if you plan to volunteer.

Boooo-mfield 5K: Saturday, October 24

The Boooo-mfield 5K returns Saturday, October 24, the neighborhood 5K sponsored by 23 Skiddoo Cafe. It also falls on the cafe's farewell weekend, when the shop reopens 7:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25 for one last cup, a chat, and a hug.

If you have not heard the news about 23 Skiddoo, the full background is in the 23 Skiddoo story. This is a bittersweet weekend for the Watsessing corner, and the 5K is a chance to show up for it.

Halloween Party and Costume Contest: Tuesday, October 27

The Halloween Party and Costume Contest runs Tuesday, October 27 from 3:30 to 6:30 pm at the Bloomfield Farmers Market, 90 Broad Street, in the library courtyard. It is hosted by Bloomfield Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs with the Bloomfield Public Library and Foundation.

There is a costume contest for adults and kids, plus games, treats, and prizes. It is a family-friendly way to close out the month right in the middle of town.
